This Sunday, we find ourselves more than halfway through our Epiphany journey and today was a day to remember God’s call leads us to abundance.
Our invitation into worship asks God to set us free from sin and show us that life is more abundant than we imagine, especially when we know and follow Jesus. Our Hebrew scripture from Isaiah recounts Isaiah’s call at the end of Uzziah’s reign as King. Isaiah is cleansed by the seraph to be God’s prophet. The Psalmist’s refrain reminds us that God cares for the lowly and exists in the middle of the trouble and will keep us safe. The letter to the Corinthians recounts Paul’s call by Jesus to minister to the Gentiles alongside the Jews. Our Gospel from Luke is packed: Jesus preaching to the people, Peter’s miraculous harvest of fish, and the disciples being sent to “catch people.”
Points worth considering when we are called, God knows everything about us and knows what we can do when we depend on God. God will send people to us who will help us find our direction better than we could on our own. We can trust that God gives with abundance if we engage in the work we are called to do. We realize our abundance when we engage with our community. And, maybe more importantly, when we hoard the abundance, we receive from God we turn that abundance into scarcity.
Who has God placed into our lives to help bolster our trust and faith? I invite your likes and comments,
