Christmas Eve and Day sermons
December 25, 2024, 11:04 PM
As Christmas day draws to a close, I offer a couple version of the reflections from Christmas Eve and Christmas Day for you to consider. The sermons aren’t the same (thanks to preaching from an outline not a manuscript). Instead of unpacking the scripture from both services (because there is too much in the two services – 7 pieces of scripture – to unpack) I’ll focus on the principal text preached upon, the Gospel. Not ironically, the text includes the nativity story from Luke, one of the best-known bible passages around. It is also known as Linus’ soliloquy from A Charlie Brown Christmas, this passage is recited every Christmas, and it is hard to say something new about the text, so I looked elsewhere and asked the questions: what were they looking for back then? What are we looking for when we come to church (here) at Christmas? How might we be invited to look at the scripture and the nativity with new eyes and an openness to God’s offering in the person of Jesus.

Christmas blessings to you all and may all be blessed this Christmas season.

I invite your comments,
Les+
