Eighteenth Sunday after Pentecost Sermon
September 22, 2024, 2:59 PM

Our worship on the 18th Sunday after Pentecost opened with the reminder that we often spend our time anxious about things which do not last but God holds the key for things which matter and last. Our lesson from Proverbs was a description of the perfection of Woman Wisdom and how God’s world provides perfection and a standard which upsets societal standards. The Psalmist reinforces the understanding of God’s commandments provide strength and structure for successful life. Our Epistle from the letter to James relates where wisdom and our faith places our trust – not in the world but in the family of God. The gospel from Mark told two stories, the shortsighted nature of the Disciples who apply human standards to God and relates that our mission is to welcome children in the name of Christ. A question for us to consider, what happens when we welcome children in Jesus’ name? We welcome someone who doesn’t add to the “bottom line” but expands our life and helps us retain our focus on the mission God calls us to. Who is the one who will help you keep you eye on your mission in God’s kingdom.

I invite your comments,
