“Our focus is finding a place to weather the storm…” We worshipped on the 9th Sunday after Pentecost offering a prayer that can faithfully accept the good things God offers us, even when we feel unworthy to receive those gifts. Our lesson from second Samuel is the beginning of David’s ascension to the eternal throne, but not without first learning humility and his job of following God. The Psalmist offered a refrain that David was chosen but being chosen did not mean they were immune from consequences when they fail. Our Epistle from the letter to the Ephesians invites us to remember that all are saved by God, not just the ones who think they are exclusively God’s chosen people. The gospel from Mark relates stories of Jesus and the Disciples doing their work meeting people where they are and doing the job we are equipped to do. We are invited to remember to do our job and not anyone else’s. We are reminded to offer hope, not to fix what we feel is wrong, and help others find hope in the present moment and finding God in the storm – because God has been available in all storms we’ve weathered. Where do we find God’s grace in the world, ourselves, and everyone we meet?
