Tenth Sunday after Pentecost Sermon
July 28, 2024, 2:48 PM

“You’ve had the power all along, you just couldn’t see it…” We worshipped on the 10th Sunday after Pentecost offering a prayer to remind ourselves that God’s grace helps us live in the present moment without losing our place in heaven. Our lesson from second Samuel is the recounting of David and Bathsheba and the beginning of David’s downfall because he used his power in ways which didn’t maintain or build community. The Psalmist identified the person who fails to trust God’s promises and providence. Our Epistle from the letter to the Ephesians is a reminder that we truly know what we are more capable than we imagine and what we’re asked to do is give as we can, do what we can, and pray for other believers. The gospel from John relates the story of the feeding of the 5,000 and Jesus coming to the disciples as they struggle to cross the Sea of Galilee. These stories show the faces of power and the uses of power alongside the authority we have to be spokespeople for God – not simply parroting but using the authority endowed on us from Jesus. By sharing we will find that God’s power working through us in ways we can never truly imagine. What stands in your way of capitalizing on God’s power in you?

I invite your comments,
