We had a wonderful time in worship on the 12th Sunday after Pentecost with today’s theme “God works with our imagination to bring us to our ‘tomorrow.’” We offered a prayer to remind ourselves that God’s spirit helps us think and do right as we live aligned to God. Our lesson from second Samuel is the recounting of Joab and David’s warriors killing Absalom and how that brought sadness to David, even though it brought him safety. The Psalmist offered a lament while feeling like he was abandoned but that he still remembered the faithful promises of God through all time. Our Epistle from the letter to the Ephesians relates some of the dichotomy of life in a community of human beings with all their foibles and predispositions. The gospel from John is a continuation of the bread of life discourse while he is met with contempt from some because they know him, and they know what bread is. We are invited to look at what we’ve had in the past that makes us who we are in the present. But we can’t stop there, because the past can anchor us in place and not allow us to move to the place where God calls us to use our imagination to see a way to the place where we get closer to place of fulfillment – eternal life in heaven. How are you challenged to visit your past to empower your imagination and chart a path to the future?
I invite your comments,
