Twenty-second Sunday after Pentecost Sermon
October 20, 2024, 2:58 PM

Here comes November...

Our worship on the 22nd Sunday after Pentecost offered a prayer reminding us that God’s mercy sustains the faithful and those committed to God’s work across the globe. Our lesson from Job relates God’s question to Job about Job’s presence at creation and how he can’t truly comprehend God’s goodness. This passage sets the stage for Job’s restoration. The Psalmist’s song asks for God’s blessing to provide comfort for their soul and for the ability to continue to look for God in troubles. The letter to the Hebrews reminds people through time that Jesus became like us so we can remember that Jesus experienced the questions and challenges we will experience and thus, not lose hope. The gospel from Mark was the story of James and John asking to sit at Jesus’ right and left hand – looking for a position “better” than the other disciples. And the expected response of the other disciples being put off by their request. Today’s sermon was focused on the story of Job and how God leads us where God needs us to be led, even when we don’t expect it or realize that God is leading us. Our job isn’t to follow blindly, rather it is to continually work to get to the place God has in store for us. Where is God calling you to be present today, tomorrow, and in our future?
